Experience Summary
From a young age, I have enjoyed teaching, working with young people, and the challenge of making a tough problem seem easy. I have a BA in Literature and am a semester away from completing my M.Ed. in Secondary Education. Additionally, I am a trained teaching consultant for the National Writing Project. I have spent the last five years working full time as a teacher, two years in an economically and racially diverse college prep charter school, and three years in one of the most well-respected private schools in the state.
Teaching Style
A third generation teacher, working with kids is in my blood. In college, many teachers and peers commented on my ability to break down a large or complicated issue into manageable, easy-to-digest ideas. Now, as I tackle scary grammar issues or the dense analysis of irony in a plot, I thrive on the "lightbulb" look on my students' faces when I have finally made something click. I tend to keep my instruction child-focused, rather than just performing a lesson; if their head, hearts, and hands are not involved in the learning, I don't feel confident the lesson will last.
