Experience Summary
I began tutoring in sixth grade when I voluntarily gave up my lunch recess each day to help in a first-grade classroom. I continued to tutor my peers in high school. After I graduated from Seattle Pacific University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English, I was chosen by the Mayor of Bremerton to teach English in Japan for three years. Upon my return to the United States, I immediately went back to school for my teaching certificate in Elementary Education. I also worked as a Para educator in a special education classroom where I continued to use my teaching skills. I’m currently working as a guest teacher for two different school districts, teaching nearly all subjects in grades K-12.
Teaching Style
The reason I chose to go to school for my teaching certificate is that I've always been passionate about learning. I think the best teachers are excited to constantly learn new things. My teaching style is hands-on as often as possible. Students remember very little information taught to them in a lecture format. I try to use manipulatives such as blocks, especially when teaching a subject like math or science. I am very patient and flexible and I love to smile. I believe every child can succeed and I will never give up on a student, no matter how much they may struggle academically.
