Experience Summary
Prior to full-time teaching, I subbed in Kyrene and Chandler. This helped me to get an edge with different age levels. Then I taught eighth grade English in Chandler for three years. Following this, I took two years off to be with my young children. Next, I taught high school English for seven years to sophomores and seniors in Ahwatukee. I also worked as a Media Specialist. In this position, I taught students from k-12th grade. Lessons focused on literature, research and the writing process/skills. My main areas of focus are the writing process and literature. My passion is clear: writing and literature appreciation that will last a lifetime.
Teaching Style
With writing skills, I prefer small groups. This makes it more productive for the learners. I teach with many visual examples and I involve the students in the learning process by helping them to realize their own weaknesses. I believe that students do not know what they are doing wrong unless I shows them along the way. Constructive criticism is integral to the process.
I believe that quality trumps quantity. It is better for a student to fully understand the idea even if it means covering less material. One well-written paper is better than five papers that have the same mistakes in them. Studying one Shakespearean play in detail is better than glossing over five in order to say that I covered many plays with the students.
