Experience Summary
The majority of my tutoring experience took place at Northern Illinois University from 2007 to 2008. There I worked in the NIU Writers’ Workshop, tutoring freshman students with assignments from their English classes. I worked with the same students each week (usually one or two at a time for 50 minutes) on both personal narratives and research papers. Since this time, I completed a semester of student teaching in high school English, and graduated from NIU with my BA in English.
Teaching Style
As a very creative person myself, I strive to bring that creativity to my teaching. I am always looking for new and exciting ways to present a lesson to my students. I believe students should be fully engaged in what they are learning as often as possible, and not just passively listening to a lecture. I bring an energetic approach to teaching that is often filled with humor, though I am never condescending to a student. I always look at each student as an individual and try to discover the best way of teaching that person.
