Experience Summary
I have been teaching for 18 years at the junior high and high school level. I offer group and individual classes for home- schooled families in South Orange County. Some of the classes I offer are: English grammar & composition, American, British & World Literature, American & World History, French, Italian, SAT essay prep. I hold a certification from the Institute for Excellence in Writing, and a Master's Degree in Humanities, including Philosophy, Literature and History. I was born in Italy and grew up in a French territory, hence French and Italian are both native languages to me. I also have a fairly good grasp of Spanish.
Teaching Style
My teaching style is based on a Socratic pedagogy -- the basis for learning is discussion and critical thinking. I am passionate about good education, and my own classical education background lends itself to the discussion-based lessons I provide. Depending on the age of the student, I also include enducational games that bring fun into the class while stressing important facts and increasing students' mastery of the subject. My students typically leave a class feeling they have been challenged, but having all their questions answered, and holding clear expectations for the next session. I believe teaching is a gift as well as an attitude. My teaching method and philosophy of education offer both.
