Experience Summary
As a Master’s degree recipient in English, I have developed a comprehensive background in literature and composition. Moreover, my professional history includes many years of teaching and mentoring in both in the United States and abroad, which has enhanced my ability to communicate complex subject matter to a culturally varied student demographic. In Taipei, Taiwan, I prepared, facilitated and assessed English classes for local elementary, secondary, and adult Taiwanese students. While receiving my NCLB certified CLAD credential from SDSU, I served an inner-city population of students as a student teacher at San Diego High School, during which I had implemented and practiced effective teaching strategies to accommodate students with special needs and English Language Learners. I have since earned a CSET certification in general science and have designed technologically advanced units of instruction using i21 Promethean Board Active Inspire software and additional Internet resources, such as Moodle, Glogster, Wikis, and Blogging as long-term science substitute teacher at Logan K-8. These professional development opportunities have enabled me to provide my middle and high school students with substantive and challenging instruction through nuanced and contemporary mediums of pedagogy.
I have also served Club Xcite and San Diego Youth Services in the capacity of a tutor for socio-economically disadvantaged children and students with special needs since April of 2009. I have readily transferred many skills and formal training techniques as a teacher into my tutoring approach.
Teaching Style
As an inspired educator and experienced teacher, I have served many unique populations, which include middle and high school youth as well as university and adult students. I strive to advance a student centered environment both in the classroom and as a tutor in which every individual is accommodated with a scholastic program that builds upon his or her unique strengths and talents in order to fortify academic areas that require improvement. Creative and engaging lessons supported with differentiated instruction, technologically progressive activities and high expectations of every student are several qualities that characterize my teaching and tutoring style.
