Experience Summary
As a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, I have made it my goal to not only be successful in my own academic studies but to also assist others in achieving success in their academic careers. I have a diverse set of interests as shown by my bachelor’s degree in political science with a minor in chemistry. While in college, I tutored students one on one in the areas of general and organic chemistry. Following graduation, I spent a year in South Korea teaching English as a second language to preschool and elementary students. Currently, I am a No Child Left Behind tutor assisting middle and high school students in the areas of mathematics, reading comprehension, fluency, and phonemic awareness.
Teaching Style
I have participated in several tutoring training seminars that have taught me various methods of teaching. First of all, students learn differently and it is important to accommodate to those differences. Therefore, I have learned that teaching involves more than just speaking one on one about the material. Teaching includes pictures, real world examples, hand gestures, mouth positions for learning new languages, etc. Today, children tend to look at learning in a scattered form that makes learning frustrating and often undoable. As an educator, it’s my hope to reel in this unstructured form of learning and bring some clarity to learning.
