Experience Summary
I think education is crucial to life’s success. Earning 2 degrees has given me lots of writing/reading experience, and knowledge of music performance and history, child psychology, development and teaching. I was a private piano and classroom teacher in San Diego for 5 years, a classroom teacher in New York City Public Schools for 3 years and have been a private tutor. I’ve also instructed students of varying abilities, including those with learning disabilities. I am passionate about music. I’ve taken 12 years of piano and flute lessons. I went to F.H. LaGuardia HS of Music and Art, the school the movie Fame is based on, for music; I have also studied advanced music theory, played in various ensembles and performed at Carnegie Hall.
Teaching Style
I love teaching all children. I’m skilled at matching my teaching methods to each child’s abilities and making learning fun. I am available to help your child find academic or musical success. I’m patient and easy going, but make sure children finish their work. I use an incentive system to reward hardworking students and share their successes with their parents. As a music teacher, I instruct children in classical and jazz, music theory, sight reading, ear-training techniques and keyboard skills. I model playing techniques and hold family recitals so children gain performance experience and their parents can share their musical growth with others. I use age appropriate games to teach basic skills so that my students progress more quickly.
