Experience Summary
I currently teach chemistry at Hartnell College. I have a BS and MS Degree in Chemistry, earning both from California State University Fullerton. As a graduate student, I taught general chemistry labs and was awarded an Outstanding Graduate Teaching Award for my efforts to help my students succeed in both lecture and lab. I have also privately tutored college students in organic chemistry and general chemistry.
Teaching Style
Chemistry is challenging, which is why you’re looking for a tutor, but it’s not an impossible subject to master if you put in the time and effort. That is precisely what I did as an undergraduate and graduate student, and I earned a 4.0 G.P.A. in all chemistry courses and laboratories. If you choose to work with me, we will focus on understanding, not simply memorizing. Yes, as with any subject you will need to memorize information, for instance, that a mole is a number just like a dozen is twelve, but in chemistry, memorized information is useless without putting it into context or knowing how to apply it. We’ll work on knowing the material well enough to apply it quickly on exams and quizzes.
