Experience Summary
From college through work in information technology, I found myself tutoring others. It is a joy to see that “Ah, I understand!” look on the face of another. So I switched careers to teach English as a foreign language.
At first I taught at a private English school here. Then I spent over 2-1/2 years in China, teaching at universities and tutoring individuals. I've taught oral, written, listening, grammar and business English, as well as American literature and culture.
Now I’m back in Denver. One-on-one teaching is the best way to assess a student’s needs and adjust my teaching methods for him/her. If you wish to learn, I can help you and we will both enjoy it. Resume and references are available.
Teaching Style
My style is friendly, patient and understanding. I use a variety of techniques, from personal instruction to multi-media material. Depending upon the student’s needs, we could engage in anything from conversation to games and structured exercises. Students learn in different ways, so I gear my lessons to their strengths.
Some students worry about embarrassing themselves. To overcome this, I keep my sessions casual and supportive. Corrections are gently instructive without disapproval.
Homework is a good way to keep a student focused on learning between tutoring sessions. No homework is over-taxing, but learning is a matter of frequent practice.
It is my mission to make tutoring interesting, stimulating and enjoyable.
