Experience Summary
As an older student returning to complete my degree, I was driven to achieve my goal. I worked while completing my education and this gave me a better appreciation for that education. My teaching skills were honed while working with middle school children in the public school system and as a private piano and voice teacher. Experiences in the church setting further added to the experience that has made me a better business person and teacher. I maintained a large number of students in private practice as well as in an educational center setting. As a member of the National Piano Teacher's Guild, my student consistently scored in the excellent category when competing in the annual Guild Auditions.
Teaching Style
Students of all ages are welcomed in my world...from beginners to the senior citizen who wants to learn more. I strive to make the learning fun and exciting by finding what works for the student as an individual. They are not all alike and because of this, I find that "cookie cutter" style teaching doesn't work. If something doesn't work one way, I try to find another way to achieve the same goal. Rather than my playing a new piece for the student, I ask that the student TRY it themselves first....breaking it down into small pieces so that it doesn't overwhelm them at first run through. For the student who thinks they CAN'T, I tell them, "can't lives on WON'T street." Helping the student discover that they CAN is my concept of teaching.
