Experience Summary
My education focuses on geology, the environmental sciences and includes the arts. One of my main interests is encouraging students to explore the wonderful possibilities available in the many existing scientific fields. My experience is diverse; I’ve held many technical field positions with the government, I spent two years in Panama with the Peace Corps encouraging and teaching poor coffee farmers in sustainable agricultural techniques, and I’ve worked as a volunteer for the National Park Service, The Nature Conservancy and others. I taught English in Panama, I was a tutor for the America Reads Program, and twice I tutored undergraduate women through MentorNet, an online forum encouraging women to pursue science degrees.
Teaching Style
I enjoy working one on one with students, and will adapt my teaching style to how the student learns and to what he/she finds interesting. My goal as a tutor is to assist others in increasing their knowledge, to develop learning skills and make it an enjoyable process. I listen intently to what each student needs, and focus on meeting specified goals. Each person has the capacity to learn, and by using the strengths and commitment of the student, I will do my best to help the student achieve his/her academic goals.
