Experience Summary
Whether it is volunteering to mentor at-risk children, or tutoring students through college, I have enjoyed building relationships and watching the spark of understanding emerge on a student's face. Having been both an English and Science major in college, I am acutely aware of the need for an individual to be expertly conversant in both the sciences and humanities. My extensive collegiate writing experience helped me enormously in medical school, where the ability to express oneself through the written word is a rare and prized skill, often lost in the rigorous study of medicine. I have been tutoring students from various backgrounds and disciplines, including high school subjects, ESL, Science, as well as nursing and medical students.
Teaching Style
I am a teacher at heart. I have enjoyed learning for the sake of scholarly pursuit all of my life, earning the moniker of "Renaissance Man." I firmly believe that my strength in teaching lies in one on one or small group settings, by allowing a bond of trust and understanding to develop. Teaching by memorization is not effective, however teaching by allowing students to discover and explore concepts in a pleasant environment makes a world of difference, creating a learner or scholar for life, rather than merely an expert in rote memorization and regurgitation of material for an exam or class.
