Experience Summary
I just finished my Ph.D. in French language and literature from Emory University. I taught for seven years in graduate school, including a beginning writing class. During a previous stint at graduate school at the University of Colorado I spent two years grading undergraduate papers and helping the students with their writing. Other tutoring opportunities occurred when I worked at the Emory Multi-Media center, aiding both students and faculty in learning new technology.
Teaching Style
From the outset I strive to create an environment of mutual respect and fun. I really enjoy tutoring because it's collaborative: both the teacher and the student learn from the experience. My patience and unhurried ear go far in encouraging a writer’s creative process. I focus on expression, the bond between quality of writing and quality of thought, the structure of a good argument, and how the efficacy of communication involves precision at the levels of vocabulary and syntax, sentence and paragraph.
