Experience Summary
During my time at the University of Maine, I completed many courses in both Studio Art and the History of Art. I have studied 2-D and 3-D design, sculpture, painting, drawing, graphic design, and other mixed medias. Under each of those umbrellas I have advanced skills in fostering original ideas and learning new materials through creative exploration. I have earned my BA in Studio Art and completed a Minor in Art History. My Art History courses heightened my research and analytical skills through research papers and familiarizing myself with informative texts. During my time at the University of Maine, I spent a semester tutoring mathematics where I gained experience in working with students and assessing their individual needs.
Teaching Style
I understand the importance of getting to know students on an individual basis, as everyone will learn in a different way. With art specifically, I believe it's important to be helpful and supportive while encouraging new ideas and new techniques. In teaching art, I believe one should work hands-on with the student and the chosen materials, but still introduce theories and ideas about the choices being made to give further meaning to the work. The best art instruction comes from those who are open-minded and allow creativity to blossom while advancing technique. These philosophies are what I strive for in my instruction.
