Experience Summary
I have extensive teaching experience at all levels from my years spent in Germany. I taught at the level of technical colleges (Technische Hochschule Bremen) high school and grade school (Schulzentrum Obervieland). I have exzperience in teaching both a specialized form of language instruction (English for electrical engineers) and general languages. I have found teaching beginners to be extremely rewarding because there is no basis to build on. Everything they can write or say was taught to them by me, and it is extremely gratifying if they feel challenged and motivated to continue to learn the subject I taught them in.
Teaching Style
As far as teaching languages goes, I believe in immediately beginning in the language and doing all instruction in that language. Translation should be minimized at the start, although it will have its place much later at an advanced stage. The challenge of making this approach comprehensible and fruitful to the student falls on the teacher; it's what makes the teaching languages interesting. I have followed this method for a number of years, and my successes confirm me in this belief.
