Experience Summary
I have had enjoyable experiences teaching and tutoring both at San Diego State University and Southwestern College, where I developed positive relationships with students and helped foster growth in their musical education. Specifically, I was involved in the music theory program at San Diego State, helping students with all theory levels and aural skills. At Southwestern College, I also tutored these subjects in addition to tutoring piano, helping me develop skills that I would later need in becoming a private piano instructor. I earned a BM in Composition from San Diego State while studying piano as my instrument. I was lucky enough to study composition with such great teachers as Joseph Waters and David Ward-Steinman.
Teaching Style
I am a person who is stimulated by learning new things. This carries over in my teaching and my constant demand to never give up on any student. I am always trying to think of new ways to explain complicated ideas to students while keeping them actively engaged and focused on the lesson. I can also remember the difficulties that I had when I was in school and know how important it is to keep the student looking toward their future with plans and motivation. Mostly, I have patience for teaching and an endless amount of enthusiasm for music, which is my life.
