Experience Summary
From 2000-2004 I taught manual and computerized accounting at Kaplan voacational schools in South Texas.Apart form teaching students during the week, I would also hold tutoring sessions on Saturdays for any student who was having difficulty keeping up or had been ill. During the last few years I have taken continuing education courses in accounting online in order to keep up with the latest changes. One of the courses was the Becker CPA Review which involves accounting problem solving at the college level.
Teaching Style
Since most accounting books involve a step-by-step approach, I would have to evaluate the student to see what appears to be the problem area in order to get a good solid foundation before continuing into the more difficult areas of accounting. A good mix of theory and problem solving is required for each student on an individual basis. Even though my students were in a vocational school many of them would continue on to college after completing my accounting course.
