Experience Summary
I've been teaching and performing music professionally for over 10 years. Since receiving my degree, I've taught chorus, currently teach private lessons, and provided music services for churches in both NC and GA. I have taken music education workshops for several years, had Graduate Assistant experience in the music history and opera during Graduate School classes, and currently perform for educational programs in GA.
Teaching Style
My teaching style goes from both pedagogy to description. Once I understand the knowledge of the student, I speak to them on the level of what they know, depending on the age. Since I've worked with students from age 2 to adulthood, I try to relate to students based on their age as well. If the student is not very knowledgeable of music, I tend to explain things to make it plain. Often, professionals tend to speak "over" the student's head with technical words, so they have no clue as to how to produce a note. I use descriptions to make the idea more useful to the student. I am a caring person and I support my students more than the average teacher. If invited, I attend concerts and other performing functions outside of lessons.
