Experience Summary
I worked for the Graham Group in York, PA at one of the legacy businesses (Graham Architectural) in the acct. dept. for 6 months. I was then transferred to the corp. office (Graham Capital), which administers its marketable securities and alt. inv. portfolios, and oversees its direct equity inv. in dozens of businesses. Both positions were held during college as interships, and I was employed for approximately 2,500 total between 9/06 and 9/08. I accepted an offer with PwC and worked as an associate auditor from 10/08 to 7/09 and have been consulting since. During my time at Penn State Harrisburg, I was employed with the learning center as a peer tutor for accounting classes, and was asked to continue, but could not due to my schedule.
Teaching Style
I would first try and pinpoint where my students weaknesses were, and sometimes even ask them to describe what kind of trouble they're having with the material. I would then use a dry erase board to work through problems and examples with them until they demonstrated a grasp of the material. I would also use my real-world experience, and discuss examples of how these concepts are applied. I quickly discovered that some students needed more attention, so I would tailor the tutoring to their specific needs. If the course included a software program, I would work with them one on one and assist with the completion of tasks (making sure they fully understood the material, and not just giving them the answers).
