Experience Summary
I have been teaching and counseling special education students for 10 years. While earning my teaching degree, I was employed for 3 years as a paraprofessional and therapeutic staff support specialist. The students I tutored and counseled ranged in age from 9 to 21 years old. For the past 7 years I have been employed part time at an private alternative education school as the special education teacher. The students are in 7th through 12th grade, and they are diagnosed with a need for emotional support. I also work each afternoon as a home school teacher. My student’s exceptionality is Asberger’s Syndrome. I have been tutoring in the home for 7 years.
Teaching Style
My work as a special education teacher requires an ability to teach students having a wide range of exceptionalities. I am dedicated to maintain high expectations for each student,and I understand each student’s education program needs to be individualized in order to meet each students goals. I strive to develop a trusting relationship and work to improve a student’s self image through consistent positive feedback. As a special education tutor, I need to be persistent, patient, organized and confident in order for my students to achieve success.
