Experience Summary
With a BA in Politics, Philosophy, & Economics (w/Literature Concentration), I am able to help students move beyond a simple grammatical appreciation of the English Language: from understanding allusions to developing their own voice. I am comfortable writing and teaching in a variety of styles (research papers, creative writing, journalism, poetry), and have extensive copy-editing experience (projects include a book, magazine & newspaper articles, published papers, and college composition essays). I have also provided feedback/tutored an ESL student for a full school year, and am at home in any academic environment (three-plus years as a Teaching Assistant).
Teaching Style
I am undaunted by challenges, easy to get along with, and passionate about the English language. I approach each student as a person, recognizing that each will have specific needs and that certain methods will work better than others. I believe it is my job to make the material comprehensible and relevant. I believe the best results occur when the student connects, for themselves, their own innate ability to communicate, and the possibilities that lay upon a sheet of paper. I believe that every student can learn to love one thing about writing, even if they hate to write. I believe that writing can become as natural as thinking, and that it clarifies our thought.
