Experience Summary
I have a special interest in ESL students, having myself experienced what it is like as a child to be immersed in a foreign culture and school without speaking the language. As an adult, I also understand how critical it is to have strong English communication skills to succeed in today’s competitive marketplace.
I had rewarding career in the business world having worked for a top ten Fortune 500 company. I recently made the transition to teaching and work for HISD. I am currently a sub for all grade levels and have +120 hours instruction time in bilingual classrooms and have passed my TeXes EC-4 and ESL supplemental K-12 exams.
Teaching Style
I have a holistic approach that goes beyond just helping a person with homework or test prep. I like to combine tutoring and coaching services.
1. Often students hire a tutor after they are falling behind in school. The first goal is to develop a plan of action and get the student back on track. This helps with relieving stress and feeling overwhelmed.
2. Develop learning skills and strategies for taking tests, memory recall and linking concepts. There is no ones size fits all and must be tailored to the individual.
3. Building confidence in student's learning abilities is critical!
4. The ultimate goal is empowering the student to become an independent learner.
