Experience Summary
I graduated from Columbia University with a BA in English and political science and spent the four years following graduation working on the communications team for Mayor Michael Bloomberg in New York City. In that capacity I supervised a staff of five full time employees and a variable number of interns. That experience was helpful in terms of learning to teach and mentoring college-age and post-college individuals. I moved to St. Louis about two months ago and will be starting a PhD program in English literature at Washington University in the fall. As part of that program I will be teaching college writing. I have extremely strong writing skills and look forward to helping others learn to read and write at a higher level.
Teaching Style
I am passionate about literature, writing, and proper grammar, but I also have a strong grounding in pop culture, which helps, I think, to make the subject matter relevant and engaging. I am patient and skilled at explaining difficult subjects in a way that I feel a student can understand and I believe that humor is a very important tool in making learning an enjoyable experience. Some of my favorite and most effective teachers were among the funniest people I know and that serves as an inspiration for my own teaching style.
