Experience Summary
I have over 20 years of teaching experience both in the USA and abroad. I have taught elementary grades K - 6th and multicultural students as an ESOL certified teacher. My BA degree is in English from San Jose State University, San Jose, California. I have also tutored students and have been especially successful in teaching reading comprehension, writing and test-taking skills. My MA degree is in Educational Guidance and Counseling.
Teaching Style
My first goal is to establish rapport with my student. I want all of my students to know that I am approachable, friendly and knowledgeable. I have learned that students achieve when they are engaged in the learning process. My goal is to create safe, stimulating and rewarding experiences for the student who in turn learns by actively participating in the learning process. I see myself as a facilitator more so than a "teacher". I know that each child is different and has an individual learning mode. I am committed to helping each child to experience success. Accomplishment builds self esteem which leads to courage to try new and more difficult educational challenges. I enjoy seeing children reach satisfying goals.
