Experience Summary
As a student at Sam Houston State University, I practiced my teaching skills by offering free tutoring to all of my classmates focusing on study skills, memorization and improving writing skills. I attained a BA in English while maintaining an A average, staying on the dean’s list, and earning scholarships. Minoring in history has allowed me to couple literary pieces with historical background to provide a deeper understanding. I am also highly skilled in college essay writing, teaching various styles and formats. After college, I taught 12th grade English at Lamar High School for two years, with notable improvement of all my students and their success in college, including behaviorally challenged students.
Teaching Style
I love helping other people, especially those that want to better their lives by acquiring a skill or talent. Many students who seem to “not get it” or have been left behind do learn what is needed if only they could relate it to their lives, had someone show them a different way to look at it, or would just take that extra moment to clarify the point. I also believe that all students will rise to any expectation or goal set when they are empowered with the tools needed to succeed and an inner belief that they are truly winners.
