Experience Summary
I like to tell people that i did not choose teaching; rather I believe it chose me. I have always worked with children that were struggling whether it was socially or academically. I was typically working with what are known as the "at risk" students. However, I eventually found my way into the classroom as It was noticed that I had a natural ability to balance teaching in the content area and managing behaviors. I loved math all of my life and even found myself tutoring fellow college classmates. I have been teaching math now for 6 years and have been the lead math teacher in every school that I taught for.
Teaching Style
My teaching style is one in which I find ways to relate content to the students' everyday lives. I like to balance textbook knowledge with practical applications and cultural relevance. I also am a firm believer in planning lessons that require higher order thinking skills yet do not become overwhelming. Since the beginning of the era in which the special education population has began being mainstreamed into regular education classrooms in most schools, I have developed a great practice of differentiated instruction. I also am aware that there are people who are a specific learning style as well as the people that are a combination of any two or three learning styles. That's who I teach for.
