Experience Summary
By training and trade, I'm a professional counselor. I've worked in school, mental health, and private settings as both an academic advisor and as an individual, group, and family therapist. At the college level, I've taught student success, time management, test-taking, goal-setting, communications, psychology, and business courses. I have also taught group social skills and motivation workshops at the elementary and high school levels.
I'd be happy to tutor students of any age in English, writing, grammar and composition, public-speaking, history, or social sciences. And I'm more than willing to act as a learning coach, tailoring "lessons" or academic exercises to your student's needs.
Teaching Style
My teaching/coaching style is structured, organized, yet relaxed. I believe it's important to get to know the individual and his/her learning style before creating a personalized education plan for him/her. After discerning how a person best learns, I would tailor a program based on areas that most need improvement. Then we would design "classes" or units that are interesting and meaningful to the student. A subject must have meaning and appeal to the student in order for real learning (and academic improvement) to take place.
