Experience Summary
I was employed as a Writing Tutor at my university, giving me the experience necessary to know how to direct and assist peers on an individual level. To obtain this position, it was required that I show a high level of proficiency in the field, both with my major GPA and the quality of my writing portfolio.
Further along this line, I graduated from Susquehanna University with both a degree in Creative Writing and considerable experience in the writing and publishing world. I have worked in detail on the design and development of numerous journals, magazines, and chapbooks and have a keen eye written detail and quality.
Teaching Style
I always tried to keep my approach as grounded as possible so that even my least talented tutees could grasp the task at hand. For instance, I feel it important to always sound out the words on a page, making sure the words flow smoothly off the tongue and not just in the mind. I do this so that the writing style, while formal, is also practical and easily accessed by the student as they write. I also feel it best to not focus too strongly on a student's weaknesses, but to feel out their strengths so that they may use those strengths to really work out their difficulties. I try to make a student not have to rely to strongly upon a tutor, but to, after not too long, walk away with the ability to tutor themselves better.
