Experience Summary
Although mathematics was my college minor, I spent 90% of my 30+ years in education teachingh the subject. Areas taught ranged from seventh grade math through Algebra I, Geometry and Algebra II at the high school level. In addition, I taught algebra and trigonometry as a member of the adjunct faculty at Terra Community College. This breadth of areas taught, I believe, gives me an insight of the difficulties faced by students at many different levels.
Teaching Style
I beieve that learning comes about through constant questioning. The student needs to review where they are now and then be led through the new material by small steps. The student then needs to step back and review the connections between these steps. When the student begins to see the logic of mathematics the easier it is to retain the material.
I try to provide concrete examples and relate the material to things with which they are familiar.
