Experience Summary
I was introduced to spanish at the age of 4, and after having structured training in a classroom which began in middle school, I have almost 14 years of spanish under my belt. I have learned the basics, studied literature and studied abroad in Mexico where I used my spanish during volunteer work at an orphanage when I was not in class. I continue to look for opportunites to improve my speaking, reading and writing skills in the language. I also worked for American Reads during 3 years in college where I assisted middle and elementary school children with homework, tutoring, mentoring and recreational activities.
Teaching Style
I like to see how much of what they are learning they currently understand and use that to help them put the rest of the pieces together. I learn from them how they learn and do my best to assist them in that way. Repetition and visual aids are usually the way I approach tutoring otherwise. I think helping them see what we are doing and the progress they have made through repeated exercises reinforces what they know and helps them retain better that they do not.
