Experience Summary
I recently graduated from U.C. Berkeley, where I earned a BA in Philosophy with a minor in English literature. For three years I worked as a freelance tutor. I honed my skills tutoring essay writing, English, U.S. History, basic economics, and Algebra 1 and 2. I have also tutored for several AP courses, all of which I personally received a score of '5': AP English, AP Art History, AP European History, and AP U.S. History. I also have experience tutoring for the SAT, especially in the verbal portion of the exam. For two years I worked as an editor of a noted journal of philosophy, which taught me to constructively criticize essays and gave me a mastery over English grammar. Currently, I tutor young learners in Echo Park.
Teaching Style
I enjoy working with all kinds of students, and especially with high schoolers gearing up to go to college. I am punctual, patient, and extremely clear in my communication of abstract concepts. While comprehension of the abstract is essential for a deep understanding of all academic disciplines, I've learned from experience that students learn best when their education is grounded in concrete examples that are relevant to their lives. Towards this end I aim to be an important person in each of my student's lives, as a role model who will extend his focus on his students beyond the one or two hour tutoring time-slot.
