Experience Summary
I have taken advanced coursework in many subjects, including math, biology, and English, and I have studied French for many years as well. While preparing for my degree in journalism, I was hired by The Daily Universe, BYU's student newspaper, to help students in the newswriting class with their pieces. Through one-on-one sessions with these students, I was able to see great improvement in their writing styles. Throughout my pre-college and university career, I have been praised for my writing ability as well as my knowledge of grammar, spelling, and expressive techniques. After my coursework at BYU, I completed an internship for Newsweek magazine in New York City, where I further perfected my craft.
Teaching Style
I have a deep conviction to helping students achieve both their academic and personal goals. I don't feel that merely passing a class is enough. I want the students I work with to feel like they have accomplished something for themselves, and have really learned tools for success. I am patient and kind, but I also ask a lot of the people I work with. I believe that teaching a child to succeed means stretching their minds into new ways of thinking, which can sometimes be uncomfortable for them. However, I am deeply committed to creating an atmosphere where students feel safe expressing themselves and asking questions.
