Experience Summary
Deep in the heart of Texas, I earned my English degree at a small college. I was only 21 years old and intimidated by the classroom, so instead of teaching, I entered the workforce. Now I am attending the English Graduate School at OSU, and am excited about teaching students on an individual basis. For the past 13 years I have volunteered at my children’s small school as a piano, music and art history teacher. Most recently, I have been substitute teaching at Bristow Middle School. In my professional experience I have used my English degree and Legal Assistant degree to enhance the writing produced by each company. It is a joy to help students learn techniques that will last a lifetime.
Teaching Style
A reflective style of teaching best describes my approach. Getting to know each student’s personality and their strengths and weaknesses will guide my method. A reflective style incorporates the teacher’s knowledge of the subject with what she knows about the students’ needs. For instance, if your student struggles with creativity but is grammatically strong, exercises in creative writing will be introduced. My tendency is to be strict, but fun; for instance, I tell my students to get their work so we can have fun! I truly look forward to meeting your child so we can start a positive learning experience that will last a lifetime.
