Experience Summary
After receiving my BA degree I taught elementary school while also obtaining an MA degree in English. I have always been a writer and have published poetry and stories. I later received an MA degree in Counseling and for many years trained and supervised MA level student counseling interns for a non-profit agency. I read and critiqued many student papers. I received a Psy.D. degree from a distance online program. I have written hundreds of papers in my lifetime! I teach non-credit adult education classes and have been a mentor/tutor with at-risk youth, a volunteer ESL teacher for immigrants (I have a working knowledge of Spanish), and am currently taking classes to renew my Colorado state teaching license.
Teaching Style
I love teaching and I believe that learning can be a positive experience. I know that people learn in different ways and one method does not fit everyone. I work hard to determine what would be the best learning style for each individual. I am patient, easy going, and my approach includes humor and a positive attitude. I know that if I believe in the ability of my students they find the potential in themselves. I don't give up - and have seen amazing results. So many young people have been turned off by the school system and the pressures they are under. My intention is to help young people approach their studies with an attitude of interest and a knowledge that they can be successful.
