Experience Summary
What interested me in a pursuing a teaching career was the tutoring experience I gained in high school and college. I started tutoring high school students in basic mathematics and science, and in college I was able to broaden my tutoring base to Spanish and English composition.
Regarding my 13 years of professional teaching experience, I have taught at the university, community college, and adult education levels. The courses I have designed and taught range from all levels of English as a Second Language to graduate technical writing and editing.
Teaching Style
I strongly believe that a successful tutor/teacher must know how to recognize students' individual learning styles and capitalize on their strengths. With all of my students, I make every effort to create a positive learning environment and to build their self-confidence. I have tutored many intelligent students who have developed mental blocks in relation to certain subjects as a result of receiving consistently negative feedback. By maintaining a learning environment that students finds agreeable, manageable, and challenging all at the same time, I am able to achieve success and make the learning experience rewarding for them.
