Experience Summary
One of my favorite experiences from college was my participation in the Boulder Reads! program operated by the Boulder Public Library system. Through this program, I was able to meet weekly with elementary school students and help them with their reading skills. In addition to reading, my students and I wrote stories and constructed books, conducted extensive vocabulary-enriching conversations, and took part in many various activities that contributed to proficiency in English. This program was personally beneficial as it allowed me to impart my advanced skills in reading, writing, and spoken language to such absorbent young minds.
Teaching Style
As every child is different, I find it best to teach with a style specific to the pupil. Initially, I will take a back seat to the student, in efforts to assess the best method of teaching the particular person. Adaptability and consistency are of equal importance, thus I tend to determine the best method for completing a task, and embody that method in moving forward. Every pupil learns differently, but the bottom line must be a patient tutor!
