Experience Summary
As a Magna Cum Laude graduate, my ten years of professional teaching experience as a lead teacher of secondary English is interspersed with a variety of other relevant experience. In addition to teaching literature, composition and grammar, I have also tutored professionally for Kaplan as part of the federally mandated No Child Left Behind program and for other private tutoring services in Maine and New York. I have taken more than twelve professional development workshops and classes in English and education since 2001. I have also taught history, civics, poetry and creative writing, professional communication and drama.
Teaching Style
The great joy for me in teaching literature and composition is sharing strategies for powerful communication to students who are blocked. Although I am inspired and passionate about English, I enjoy demystifying it and revealing how skills in other areas not only apply but can be key. Whether helping readers gain access to poetry or sharing methods to help organize thoughts or research for an essay, I enjoy helping students identify and craft their own insights into effective and powerful messages.
