Experience Summary
I received my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Ohio State University in 1970. I began my career substitute teaching in all elementary grade levels and, then, acquired a permanent first grade teaching position. During this time period I attended Queens College at night and earned my Master's Degree in Elementary Education in 1973. During the subsequent years that followed, I worked with my husband as the bookkeeper and administrator of our business, utilizing my math and organizational skills, while raising two sons. As a parent, I was totalling involved in their education. Today one of my sons is a successful architect and the other has a medical degree in optometry.
Teaching Style
I am a structured person and have a very organized approach to all of my tasks at hand. I am very capable of dealing with children and rewarding them with praise and encouragement when warranted. There is nothing more important than a positive self image and children should constantly be reminded of their strengths. Obviously, I would be there to tutor them in a subject area that they might have some weakness, however, I would impress upon them the fact that it's o.k. not to be "great" in everything and constantly compliment them on areas in which they excel. I believe that all children possess talent in "something", whether it's in the arts, music or athletics.
