Experience Summary
I began teaching private guitar lessons while I was still in High School. While working on my Bachelor's degree in Columbus Ohio I taught guitar and tutored Spanish. In 2002, I moved to Florida where I began working on my MA in Adult and Secondary Education with a concentration in Spanish. I have completed the requirements of that MA degree but have not applied to graduate in that I am taking MA level courses in TESOL to allow for a second concentration under the same Masters' degree. I have been tutoring Spanish, Portuguese, writing and English for Speakers of Other Languages at UNF for the last seven semesters. For me tutoring and teaching are not just a profession they are a passion.
Teaching Style
My initial goal with any student is to establish comfort and trust. My easy going style and infectious smile will help any pupil feel at ease. My hope is always to create motivation within the student and confidence in their own ability. I see my position as assisting the student learn in a non-threatening environment. Criticism will always be GENTLE and instructive, directing the child or adult to the correct solution to any problem. Increasing self-confidence and self-esteem will empower the student and create an atmosphere where they have faith in THEMSELVES and are certain that they can learn anything that they wish and achieve even the loftiest goals.
