Experience Summary
I have a PhD in Microbiology and dual majored in college to obtain a BS in both Biomedical Science and Health Chemistry. As a result, I have a wealth of knowledge in the areas of science and mathematics. I also have extensive experience writing and editing grant proposals and research papers and understand well the mechanics of the English language. I have mentored numerous colleagues in areas ranging from biological and chemical concepts to experimental techniques to presentation of results in my 14-year career as a laboratory scientist.
Teaching Style
I enjoy sharing knowledge of science with people of all ages. Many people find science to be intimidating, but I believe that once a person gets past the vocabulary barrier, the concepts of science are less overwhelming. One of my strengths is distilling scientific knowledge from the incomprehensible to concepts that anyone can understand. Most people struggle with science by trying to memorize a bunch of facts without understanding what they mean. I approach science in a concept-driven method, and the details tend to follow naturally.
