Experience Summary
I teach English as a Second Language in the evenings to adult immigrants in the Wichita area. This is a very rewarding experience; the students are eager to learn, and grateful for all I can share with them. My reputation as a good teacher has resulted in some individual requests for private tutoring. One family has called upon me to tutor their sons in grammar and reading comprehension, as well as to help them with various papers as they progressed through middle school, high school and college coursework. My qualifications include an M.A. degree in Education, and a B.A. degree in Psychology. My experience is varied; in addition to teaching, I have worked many years as a Program Consultant for the Kansas Department of Corrections.
Teaching Style
I love sharing what I know with my students, from elementary to college levels. I am patient, caring and flexible to work with my students’ individual needs. I believe that reading is the key for the young student to develop a variety of experience and thought. Therefore, I focus on encouraging students to gain exposure through reading a wide range of literature. Reading is also essential to being able to write well, which will open doors to future success. I emphasize practice with spelling, vocabulary, grammar, editing techniques and reading comprehension to prepare students to become good writers. As essays and papers become due, I help students overcome their anxieties to find their creativity and learn to develop their themes.
