Experience Summary
I have both the educational credentials as well as the work experience to be an effective tutor. As a professional, I have experience working in both the education and social work fields. This has given me a unique perspective on working with at-risk students. I have not only tutored and mentored elementary and middle school students, I have worked with them on goal-setting and behavior modification, provided counseling and family advocacy, and coordinated community services.
Teaching Style
My one and only passion has always been children. I strongly believe that every child should be respected and given an equal opportunity for success. In my experience, most children learn best through hands-on learning opportunities. Paper-and-pencil work has its place, however, I find it's important to provide other methods of teaching that cater to different types of learners such as kinesthetic and auditory learners. I also believe that children respond best to adults who have taken the time to connect with and show respect for them. And, most importantly, I believe learning should be enjoyable. As both a tutor and a parent, I take a firm, but fun approach to education.
