Experience Summary
Thirty-three years of teaching experience in not only the same school district, but the same school, has allowed me to finely hone my craft. My first 20 years were spent working with sixth-ninth graders in a middle school business classroom, enjoying the yearly curriculum changes in technology. My Master's focused on elementary education, and the opportunity to teach sixth grade Social Studies and Reading/Language Arts led to continued tutoring of students in all subjects. In addition, my role as Student Council advisor meshes my school/community leadership skills with those within the classroom walls.
Teaching Style
I always begin a class with in upbeat, fun atmosphere. I sometimes have powerful, familiar music playing when my students walk into the classroom. (Other students walking by in the hall frequently stop by to see what's going on!) I have a collection of toys and noisemakers that I use in the classroom. My classroom is visually dynamic and inviting. My goal is for my students to enter to learn with smiles on their faces, and anticipation for learning something fascinating. I love to lead them to daily "Aha" moments of discovery. My sense of humor and use of cartoons maintains an involvement high. I strategize with my kids to examine the many different ways to learn, in appreciation of their various learning styles. My students are empowered to question and learn more than required. By building their trust in me, and knowing that I sincerely love being with them, true learning happens every day.
