Experience Summary
Upon graduation from college in 1989, I immediately began my teaching career. I taught Kindergarten my first year then began a challenging yet rewarding run with the severe behaviorally handicapped. The more divers and challenging the population I work with, the better I like it. Reading and language arts are my favorite subjects to teach, as they encompass absolutely everything in a student's academic life. I do have much experience in teaching all subjects from being a veteran teacher of a self contained classroom. I believe in a strong concept base. I like to break subjects down to the barest concept then build on and enhance skills.
Teaching Style
I am quite capable of doing other things, however, I love being in a classroom. I embrace challenge. I find when I am in the classroom I constantly learn things about myself. I am a willing learner myself and strive to project that while teaching. I respect students as individual learners with uniqueness. My most rewarding days are when I realize a student has mastered a concept, that moment following a struggle when everything falls into place. Hopefully, it is as rewarding for the students as it is for me.
