Experience Summary
With 17 years' experience, I have taught students, designed programs and developed curricula for countless students. I am currently a Mathematics instructor and Music Director at the Rudolf Steiner School, and on the Theory and Composition faculty of Manhattan School of Music Precollege Division. Because I have earned two very different degrees, a BS in Mathematics and a MM in Music Composition, I bring a very broad sense of the world to my students. Indeed, I am constantly striving to bring the artistic in math and the rigorous in music to my students.
I have taught, tutored and helped countless students in the above disciplines, as well as coached adults in the use of software applications for a variety of end purposes. My students are now working in financial firms’ presentation centers, managing customized databases for arts organizations, designing sophisticated layouts for graphic design firms, and engraving music.
Teaching Style
I love to teach, and I love working with children. I bring a passion for education and a history of flexibility and patience with students. I work hard to not only teach the steps required to accomplish a task, but also to develop the student’s self-reliance and instincts for troubleshooting. My goal is to provide the best that a student can take on at their developmental level, with an emphasis on as much "hands-on" learning and reflection on their part.
If our task is to give the best training to the next generation of thinkers, designers and creators, then our most crucial responsibility is to teach them to delight in discovery. Every student has this capacity. It is our job to discover where, in the balance between technique and theory, this lies for each individual student. This is what I strive for with my students.
