Experience Summary
As an experienced Remedial Language Specialist, I have been responsible for designing and implementing individualized programs for students with a wide range of learning styles. In addition to fostering reading proficiency, vocabulary acquisition and strategies for passage comprehension, I am also an expert at teaching the writing process from brainstorming to outlining to final revision. I am passionate about language and empowering students with tools for academic success.
Teaching Style
My teaching approach is to be direct and explicit, as well as facilitative. When working with students, my goal is that they internalize concepts and strategies that will ultimately enable them to perform independently. Then, when teaching reading and writing, I emphasize underlying structures and organization of text and the steps in the writing process. Breaking down barriers by pulling out language and ideas opens the door to rapport and understanding a student’s strengths and weaknesses.
