Experience Summary
As seasoned home school teacher, I have educated my children for the past 17 years. I have worked with all age groups from kindergarten through 12th grade, teaching and mentoring one on one. I have the experience of teaching all the elementary level subjects for four of my five children. I have also taught the high school level subjects to three of my five children. I have fine-tuned organizational skills with experience in scheduling and writing course syllabuses, using Microsoft Excel. I have sat on organizational board,s and worked with other to make administrative decisions. I have worked with my children with learning disabilities, especially visual disabilities. I have the knowledge of all the learning styles and have learned to adjust my teaching style to work with the student's learning style. I have had the opportunity to teach in a classroom setting in various seminar-type environments. I have had the privilege of coaching and preparing students for the PSAT and SAT college entrance exams. In addition, I have counseled and help prepare two of my students for applying to colleges and universities and prepared detailed portfolios. I continue to teach three children.
Teaching Style
I enjoy coaching and encouraging anyone to learn. I am enthusiastic and enjoy seeing "the light bulb" come on. I believe everyone has the capability to excel, and I understand that there are several learning styles. I work to help the student discover their learning style/s and happily adapt to their way of learning. I am patient and thoughtful of the student and their needs. I seek to help the student discover how and what to do and eventually 'own' their ability to learn and be self-driven.
