Experience Summary
I have a lifetime of experience helping others with reading and writing. As a supervising editor, I have mentored and tutored writers of varied abilities. Some of them have gone on to win national awards. As a literacy coach, I have helped numerous students become better readers and writers and to experience the joy and empowerment that comes with mastering those crucial skills. The desire and ability to help others learn has been a thread throughout my career. I was the editor of my school newspapers in high school and college and have continued to coach writers and editors as a newspaper professional. I am equally skilled at teaching the mechanics of writing and in helping young writers find their literary voice.
Teaching Style
I have a passion and enthusiasm for reading and writing that I love to share. These skills, after all, are the building blocks for success in education and life. It is crucial that all children master these basics in the style that works for them. As a literacy coach, I have helped children unlock the door to reading comprehension. There is no greater satisfaction than to see the look on a child’s face when that breakthrough moment arrives. I am patient, caring and committed to finding the leaning path that leads to success for each child. I believe the effective tutor is the one with the burning desire to make every child feel valued and confident and to be empowered with knowledge and the ability and desire to learn. It is a privilege and a responsibility to help children attain these crucial skills.
