Experience Summary
As a retired veteran of the United States Army, I have extensive experience in teaching English as a Second Language, English, Reading, Writing, Math, Science and Social Studies. Because I am accustomed to diverse backgrounds and learning styles, I am capable of interacting with diverse groups.
Additionally, I received my post master's certificate in college teaching from Capella University. I received my MAeD in Curriculum and Instruction from American Intercontinental University and BA in General Studies with a minor in Business from Columbia College of Missouri. I am capable of teaching online and blended courses. I currently teach Interrelated Middle grades English/Language Arts and Reading.I previously taught at a residential treatment facility with male students between the ages of six through seventeen. Those students were emotionally disturbed (EBD). I currently instruct interrleated special needs students. My tutoring experience varies from military instruction to adult learners in English as A Second Language class to students that I tutored in reading, math and study skills.
My teaching style is participative and interactive. I lecture, when necessary but like to make my students feel as though there are an intregral part of the cognitive learning process. I believe in pushing students to their potential and beyond. A caring, patient, compassionate, but professional and firm teacher, I value the thoughts and ideas that my students share. Your opinion is very important to me, because it determines how I can bring out the very best in your academic performance. I see the educational process, as a learning experience and I believe that because every learner learns differently, my instruction must be adjusted to accommodate each learner's individual need. I love teaching and am currently fulfilling a childhood dream. I look forward to tutoring you so that you too can reach your fullest potential and goals.
